Invitation to sing in New York.
The IOMCS have been invited to sing (for a second time) with other groups in a concert in Carnegie Hall. The concert is to be on 18th January 2021 and will include Sir Karl Jenkins’ Requiem and Cantata Memoria. The concert is an annual event to commemorate Martin Luther King Jnr. Day. In addition to the concert there will be two half days of rehearsals. Singers would need to arrive in New York on the 15th January for the rehearsals on the 16th
and 17th. The invitation comes from Distinguished Concerts International New York, DCINY. Sir Karl Jenkins is the Composer in Residence at Carnegie Hall and will be present for the performance. The cost per performer is $860 ($910 for groups of less than ten). Payment will be required by DCINY in three amounts. $200 as an initial payment, $200 four months before and $460 two months before.
As an indication of total costs, flights to New York from the island, via Dublin, are currently between £500 and £600 return. In January 2018, the choir arranged a group deal for a reasonable hotel near Time Square for around £100 per night.
This is an opportunity not available to many choirs. Carnegie Hall is one of the world’s greatest concert halls. Karl Jenkins’ works are very special. The singers who attended in 2018 will tell you what an amazing experience it was.
We are looking for an indication of numbers, so can anyone who is interested please email me on billcreer@hotmail.com as soon as possible.
